IB Exams and Results
Responsibility for all academic judgements about the quality of candidates' work rests with more than 3000 examiners worldwide. A variety of assessment methods are used to evaluate both the content and process of academic achievement and to take into account different learning styles and cultural patterns.
Conventional external examination techniques (essay, short answer, multiple choice, etc) are complemented by internal assessment of course work by teachers. With classroom teachers and international examiners working in partnership, the emphasis is on ensuring that students have ample opportunity to demonstrate what they are able to do.
IB students write IB examinations beginning in May. The results are available on the internet in early July. The official certificates and diplomas are received usually in September and are either mailed out or presented to the students, depending on whether or not they are still at KES.
Cost
There is a cost for registering for the IB exams in each course, which is summarized on the IB website. These costs are simply posted through to the student accounts without modification.
Marks
Students also receive a school mark, independent of the IB grade, which is based on tests, class work, etc, at the discretion of the teacher. A student's transcript will contain the School mark and will also show any IB mark of four or more, which is automatically included. Students who wish other IB marks included should contact the Office and advise accordingly.
