King’s-Edgehill Cadets Shine at Southern Zone Marksmanship Contest

Five cadets from the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps represented their school with pride at the Nova Scotia Southern Zone Marksmanship Contest held at Camp Aldershot. Competing against 15 teams from the zone, the cadets demonstrated skill, patience, and dedication in the competition.

The day began with an early morning departure from campus, followed by a long wait before their three rounds of shooting – two prone (lying down) and one standing. Each cadet put forth an impressive effort, achieving strong individual scores.

Rory Sanson '30, a Grade 7 first-year marksman, had an excellent performance, particularly in the prone position. He placed 18th out of 33 junior marksman – a promising start to his marksmanship career.

Cadets Lillian Blois '27, Emery Endres '28, and Rowan Francis '27 all delivered solid performances, finishing 18th, 31st, and 34th out of 64 cadets, respectively. Their success is even more impressive given that they balance marksmanship training with their commitments as members of the Highlanders swim team.

The standout performance of the day came from Ann MacQuarrie '25, who delivered a stellar showing. She finished second after the prone position shooting, just two points behind the leader. However, she excelled in the standing position, pushing ahead to secure first place by seven points. As the winner of the Southern Zone competition, Ann will be invited to compete at the provincial championship in April.

The entire team should be congratulated for their hard work, dedication, and impressive results. Their commitment to marksmanship training has paid off, and they have proudly represented the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps in competition.
