Adventure and Friendship – A Cadet Summer Camp Experience with Sergeant Emery Endres!

Taking a summer course at cadet camp is always an exciting opportunity and is available to cadets at King’s-Edgehill School. Sergeant Emery Endres '28 who is a Grade 9 student shared her positive experience at Vernon Cadet Training Centre (CTC) last summer.

Here is what Emery had to say about her experience at cadet camp:

“It was really easy to travel from Halifax, NS to Vernon, BC. I had two flights and travelled with other cadets. Everything was provided and there was an officer who took us to the next gate. The flights were covered by the cadet program!

I took a course called Expedition Team Member at Vernon CTC. The two-week course was a combination of class and adventure training. The hardest part for me was getting to know new people. Everyone had travelled in from all over the place. I think that I’ve made lifelong friends, I still keep up with them and talk with them every day.

The summer was very, very hot in BC. There are different heat zones for training outside and it was so hot that we would train outside for 30 minutes then take a break in the shade for 10 minutes.

What I enjoyed the most was the variety of the experience. Everything from flying across Canada, taking the two-week expedition course in a new place and the beginning of new friendships made this a special summer. I’ve travelled to British Columbia before, but this was my first time in the Vernon area. I would definitely visit again!

My plan for this summer is to take the four-week Expedition Team Leader course so that I can become a staff cadet for the summer of 2026. A staff cadet is a leadership instructor position at camp, and you are compensated well for your work, it is the perfect summer job.

Leadership means putting your best foot forward and helping other people that may need a little support. It means advocating for people. That’s what leadership is all about, serving others! In my career as a cadet my goal is to become the future RSM in the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps.”

A little bit about Emery. She was inspired to follow in her older brothers footsteps to join Air Cadets in Aldershot. After spending her first two years in air cadets with her twin brother, Hyatt Endres '28, she joined Army Cadets at King’s-Edgehill School. Her mother is a pilot, and her older brother is currently in flight school. Emery is on the biathlon and marksmanship team. She was recently promoted to Sergeant and is a qualified as first-class marksman. Emery held the leadership role of Chief Steward at the Cadet Mess Dinner which she led her team of servers so very well. Great job Emery!
