Skye Hussey: Building Confidence Through Theatre

Skye Hussey is a Grade 11 student from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Skye is in her second year at King's-Edgehill School, and she has found a welcoming home in the theatre program. Driven by a lifelong love for theatre and the encouragement of her friends, Skye decided to audition for the School play. She values the confidence that the performing arts can instill in individuals, and her personal journey into theatre was motivated by a desire to overcome stage fright and a speech impediment. Skye recommends theatre to others, citing its benefits for public speaking, stress management, time management, and the formation of lasting friendships. One of her favorite aspects of rehearsals is the opportunity to connect with friends and witness the diverse interpretations of different roles. Skye's enthusiasm for the arts is infectious, and she encourages everyone to join, highlighting the fun and rewarding experiences it offers. "The arts is super fun, and I've loved doing it," she shares, adding with a touch of humor, "everyone should join because you get a pin."

Ezra Choo: Finding Expression Through Theatrical Arts

Ezra Choo, a Grade 11 student born near Halifax and currently residing near Kentville, has been a dedicated member of the King's-Edgehill School community since Grade 7. With four and a half years as a day student, Ezra has become deeply involved in the School's artistic endeavours, particularly through his participation in the Senior School play. "I enjoy contributing to the arts at our school," he shares, highlighting his commitment to enriching the School's cultural landscape. His journey into theatre began in Grade 5 when a friend started an acting club, sparking a love for improvization and performance. He enthusiastically recommends theatrical productions to others, emphasizing their role in fostering self-expression, developing public speaking skills, and introducing individuals to a unique community of like-minded people. One of Ezra's favorite experiences this year was the Pride and Prejudice tea party, where he enjoyed practicing accents and voices. Reflecting on his experience, Ezra notes that participating in Pride and Prejudice has been a truly unique and rewarding experience.
