Each newsletter, we will highlight members of our talented cast and dedicated crew from our current Senior School production of Pride and Prejudice. Today, we celebrate Destiny States '26, who discovers theatre’s hidden treasures through her character Charlotte Lucas, and Adya Pejcelová '27, who embraces new horizons through theatre.
Destiny States – Bringing Charlotte Lucas to life
Destiny States, a Grade 11 student from Nova Scotia, has found her artistic home within King's-Edgehill School's theatre community during her three-year journey at KES. While she didn't immediately dive into the arts during her first year, her decision in Grade 10 to become more involved marked the beginning of a passionate relationship with theatre. "I enjoy acting as a whole and spending time with my friends who also enjoy acting," she shares, reflecting on her growing appreciation for the performing arts. In the current production of Pride and Prejudice, Destiny brings life to the intriguing character of Charlotte Lucas, finding joy in the role's unique challenges. Destiny particularly values the supportive environment fostered by Mrs. Hannah Maguire and Ms. Karlee Sinclair, who help make even the most challenging moments fun and manageable. "The community is so fun and very kind, and you really get to discover an artistic side of yourself that you never knew you had before," she explains.
Adéla "Adya" Pejcelová – Exploring theatre through Georgiana Darcy
Adya Pejcelová, a Grade 10 student from the Czech Republic, has dove headfirst into the performing arts during her first year at King's-Edgehill School. Inspired by her sister's passion for performance, Adéla took on the challenge of participating in Pride and Prejudice, eager to explore the boundaries of her capabilities. "I wanted to give a stab at acting and get some cool new experiences through the long-term project that is such a famous play," she explains with enthusiasm. For Adéla, theatre represents more than just performance – it's a multifaceted journey of self-discovery and skill development. She particularly cherishes the moments in the theatre and dance studio where time seems to stand still, allowing her to immerse herself fully in the creative process. As a newcomer to both KES and theatre, Adéla has found herself embraced by a supportive community that encourages artistic growth. She passionately recommends others to step outside their comfort zones and explore various art forms, believing that "the scarier, the better." Her philosophy that artistic participation brings fulfillment and personal growth resonates through her encouraging message to fellow students, urging them to seize the creative opportunities available at KES.
