An important responsibility of the Commanding Officer of the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps is recognizing the accomplishments and service of its cadets. One meaningful way this is done is through the presentation of the Army Cadet Service Medal, awarded for four years of loyal and distinguished service in the Corps.
This week, on a snowy Tanna Turf, Head of School Joe Seagram, Commanding Officer Captain James Skafte, and Regimental Sergeant Major Chief Warrant Officer Ann MacQuarrie ’25 presented the medals to 17 deserving cadets during a dress rehearsal. Each recipient was awarded a service medal, ribbon and certificate in honour of their dedication. Of this group, eight cadets will be graduating in June. The medal is proudly worn on their Highland doublet as a symbol of their commitment and achievement.
The recipients are:
- Warrant Officer (WO) Lillian Blois '27, Drumline Warrant Officer

The marksmanship program offers introduction to the basics for each cadet in the Corps. As cadets advance there are many who become proficient in marksmanship and go on to achieve their marksmanship badge. Each cadet who qualifies receives a beautiful certificate signed by the Commanding Officer and Head of School along with their marksmanship badge. The gold crossed rifle badge they receive is sewn on the left sleeve of their highland doublet.
Qualifying for First Class Marksman is WO Max Proctor '27, Sgt Julien Gingras '27, Sgt Emery Endres '28, Cadet Rory Sanson '30, and Cadet Logan Scothorn '28. Great job!
The next highest level is Expert Marksman. Achieving this qualification is MCpl Hyatt Endres '28 and Cadet Kaegan Wells '27. Well done!
The very highest level is Distinguished Marksman. A cadet must shoot 1.5 centimetre groupings to receive their cross rifle with crown badge. The first was the RSM, CWO Ann MacQuarrie and then WO Rowan Francis '27. Joining this prestigious group is WO Lillian Blois '27!
Each February, the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps competes in the regional Zone Marksmanship Competition. Cadets who participate are awarded a bronze pin, which is proudly worn on their Highland doublet. This year, a team of five cadets was recognized for their achievements. The team members were Chief Warrant Officer Ann MacQuarrie, Warrant Officer Lillian Blois, Sergeant Emery Endres, Warrant Officer Rowan Francis, and Cadet Rory Sanson.
Congratulations to all the medal and award recipients – your hard work and dedication are truly commendable. The School takes great pride in your leadership and accomplishments within the cadet corps. Well done!
