Springtime Cadet Activities Take-off

April has arrived, marking the start of the spring season of cadet activities. This season features a variety of exciting activities, including high ropes at OnTree Adventure Park, canoeing on Pisiquid Lake, Jiu Jitsu training, air rifle marksmanship, bushcraft camping skills, cycling through Windsor, annual fitness testing in the gym, and hiking the Mount Moses wilderness trail. Additionally, Grade 10 cadets are participating in Gold Star Leadership, while members of the Mil Band, Drumline, and Pipes and Drums continue their music practice. These are just a few of the many activities taking place each Wednesday afternoon. Here are some of the highlights with the 254 this spring!
 
On Tuesday April 1, the Honour Guard welcomed Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) agents to KES.
 
On Wednesday April 9, there will be a full dress rehearsal for all cadets in full Highland reds. This is in preparation for the Cadet Church Parade and will be followed by presentations of the cadet four year service medal and marksmanship recognition.
 
From April 9 to 16 we will be participating in Operation Friendship. Twenty students and teachers are arriving from Maasland College in Oss, Netherlands. They will be visiting us and participating in school and cadet activities while here. Last September twenty students from KES went to Oss for Operation Remembrance.
 
On April 12 and 13 our RSM CWO Ann MacQuarrie '25 will be participating in Provincial Marksmanship Competition in Camp Aldershot. We wish her all the best at provincials!
 
On Wednesday, April 16 is our annual Cadet Church Parade. This is a mandatory parade for all students. There will be an early dismissal at 2:15 pm so cadets can get dressed in their Highland reds with kilt. At 2:40 pm all cadets will form up on the Tanna Turf to march in the Church Parade. At 3:15 pm the service starts at Christ Church for KES students. Everyone will be back to campus for 5:15 pm bus pickup.
 
On May 1 and 2 Grade 10 students will head off on their Gold Star Leadership Expedition at Falls Lake, camping overnight along with leadership training, canoeing and hiking. A kit list has been sent to those on the expedition.
 
On Friday, May 2, is the annual Alumni Dinner and Cadet Ball! The Cadet Ball is open to platoon and specialty Sergeants, Warrant Officers and all Grade 12 students. No Junior School attendance. An invitation is going out soon and those who are invited may bring a guest.
 
On Thursday, May 22, is the Annual Cadet Review at 6:30 pm – this is a mandatory parade for all students! King’s-Edgehill School alumna Lieutenant-Colonel Lauren Flaherty '02 is the reviewing officer for the inspection. Parents, friends, and alumni are invited to attend, there will be special performances that you won’t want to miss!
 
The spring cadet season of 2025 will be tremendous and will go by quickly! It’s an exciting time to be a cadet in the 254!
