Varsity Ski Team Trip to SSNS Provincial Championship

On Tuesday, March 4 our team headed up to Wentworth in preparation for the SSNS Provincial Championship taking place Wednesday, March 5. We had a cold but beautiful day for training. Our captains, Caitlin Behan '25 and Kaya Ullrich '25, lead the team through practice runs and focused on some of the skills they have been working on all season. The team worked hard all morning and had some time to relax and enjoy an afternoon of freeride skiing.

We spent the night in Truro and headed back to Wentworth the following morning for the race. The team got ready and organized, had a warm-up, did their inspection run, then there was a long delay due to equipment difficulties. However, the delay worked in our favour. The skiers got some warm-up runs in, and everyone was keeping a close eye on the weather as we were expecting some rain. By the time the equipment was working again, the sun was shining, and the racing began!

As for the results, our intermediate girls team received the second-place banner! (Yukino MacPhee '27, Peyton MacPherson '27, Marlene Bereuter '27, Grace Roddis '27, and Helene Wacker '27).

Our senior girls team received the first-place banner!! (Caitlin Behan, Kaya Ullrich, Marie Longin '26, Carolina Schein '26, and Rowan Lloyd '26).

Our senior boys team received the first-place banner!! (Logan Scothorn '28, Kentaro Utsunomiya '28, Ben Lo '25, Colton Stepp '25, and Andri Beer '27).

Alexa Scothorn '30 skied individually in the junior girl’s category and finished fifth out of 22!
Caitlin Behan also received the bronze medal for her individual time in the senior girl’s category! Third out of 23!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Ms. Lisa Headley for her support throughout the season, to Mrs. Shauna Forsyth for her amazing dryland training, our team captains Caitlin and Kaya for their inspiring leadership skills, our coaches Mr. Sven Dietrich, Ms. Melody Hopkins, and Ms. Katy Hasibov, all the teachers for their support during the races, and to the racers who worked so hard and made this an incredible season!
