Creating Agamographs with the Grade 10 Visual Arts Class

The Grade 10 visual arts class has just completed one of their final art projects before the end of the term. This unit focused on the art of photography, drawing inspiration from the renowned British artist David Hockney. Known for his innovative approach to photography, Hockney often combines multiple images into a single, cohesive piece, exploring themes of perspective and the passage of time.

For this project, students built their photographic images using the technique of an agamograph, a dynamic and interactive form of art that creates a shifting visual experience when viewed from different angles. Inspired by Hockney’s "joiners," which collages multiple photographs into one composition, students crafted their own agamographs by arranging their images in a way that transforms depending on the viewer’s position, offering a sense of movement and changing perspectives.

This technique not only allowed students to explore the technical aspects of photography but also challenged them to think creatively about how images can tell stories from multiple viewpoints, capturing the world around them in fresh and exciting ways.
