Transforming the Success Centre

While the Success Centre teachers, Mr. Christian Lakes and I, enjoyed relaxing this summer, our KES maintenance team of Mr. Brandon Jodrey, Mr. Jon Blanchard, and Mr. Ryan Reynolds '04 were busy transforming our student support area into a more functional and inclusive space. The team removed part of an existing wall to open the Success Centre into the University Room. The floors were evened out and sliding doors were added to ensure we could still hold two separate classes when necessary and have extra space for testing. Both rooms were painted to refresh and unify. Mr. Lakes and I then did some planning and shopping to refurbish and update the shared space. Mrs. Aynsley Sasaki, Mrs. Misty Atwater and Mr. Derek Bouwman supported us in our decisions and many trips to Ikea. We love how the space turned out!

When the students arrived in early September our combined efforts were rewarded. They love the calmness of the space and the extra work areas. Thanks to art teacher Ms. Sandy Stewart, we were able to borrow some student art to help create a calm, inviting, student-centred space. Laura Oulton '27 and Peyton MacPherson '27 each donated a painting which we are delighted to display.

Our most profound gratitude goes to Dr. Martha Jodrey and Bruce Jodrey '62, parents to Jay Jodrey ‘90 and Joel Jodrey '97. They trusted us with financial support to add to a space Mrs. Jodrey had begun in 2004 to support student learning. We are so very appreciative that the Jodrey’s provide us with the opportunity to work with these bright students who have previously encountered roadblocks in their learning. Because of the efforts of many, we are able to minimize these hurdles and allow them to show us their true abilities. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Jodrey, for your faith in the staff and students at KES!
