Exploring Masterpieces: Grade 10 Mixed Media Projects
Grade 10 students have the option to choose between music, visual art, and mixed media. In the mixed media course, we explore a variety of techniques and artistic expressions, including drawing, quilling, sculpture, and more.
Recently, I asked the class to select a "Master" painting from art books and replicate it through pencil drawing in a way the retained a palimpsest of the original. They were free to make the drawing creative in their own way. What was surprising and beautiful was the desire to observe concretely and remain true to the artist's technique. Although it was only a 60-minute class, the results were delightful.
Without naming all the "Master" artists, there are definite likenesses in the students’ drawings to the original paintings.
