King's-Edgehill School Unveils New Guiding Principles

Changes follow consultations with staff, KES families and community

The Board of Governors of King’s-Edgehill School (KES) recently approved new guiding principles. Following a consultation process with faculty, staff, alumni, and families worldwide, updating the new mission, vision, and values statements underscores the School’s commitment to excellence in education in a rapidly changing world.

“Our updated statements reflect our awareness of and responsiveness to a shifting global society,” says Sarah Campbell, alumna and Chair of the KES Board of Governors. “These statements reaffirm our dedication to developing a community of young people empowered to excel academically and personally. By embracing individuality, inclusion, and compassion, we are equipping our students with the right tools to succeed.”

Founded in 1788, KES is Canada's first independent school. An International Baccalaureate school since 1979, KES prepares students for post-secondary education and adult life by embracing and inspiring academic rigour, athletic and artistic excellence with the spirit of adolescence, strength of character, and community leadership.

“Our students get one shot at childhood,” says Joe Seagram, Head of School. “There is no re-do. Our new mission, vision, and values ensure that our school and this time of their lives is what every parent hopes for and each child dreams school will be.”

Feedback from hundreds of respondents informed the development of the revised statements, and the School’s senior leadership team, staff, and Board of Governors collaborated and ensured the final statements reflect the voices of its greater community.

KES thanks everyone for their involvement and commitment to the process. The new guiding principles and a short video are available on the KES website
