Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week are chosen based on their exceptional athletic performance and sportsmanship. At KES, we prioritize positive sporting behavior, which is central to our athletic philosophy and aligns with our core school values of kindness, integrity, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also embody the seven True Sport principles: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

Nick Smith '28
proved himself to be an exceptional athlete, earning a starting position on the basketball team where his skill, leadership, and competitive drive made him a key player throughout the season. Beyond the court, Nick showcased his versatility by teaming up with Connor Mezenberg '28 to capture the MIL Pickleball Championship title in St. Margaret’s Bay, demonstrating not only his athleticism but also his adaptability and strong teamwork across different sports.

At the East Coast Championships held in Halifax from March 27-30, 37 clubs from all Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario, including two universities, Harvey Hadley '27 more than held his own. Harvey won his 200m freestyle race while Dalhousie swimmers placed second, third and fourth, placed third in his 800m freestyle, third in his 100m freestyle and placed fourth in his 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Harvey's time in his 100m backstroke now ranks him 12th in Canada among 16-year-old boys, and his 200m freestyle ranks him 16th in Canada. Better yet, he achieved personal bests in all of his races.

Gabby Shaw '25
represented KES basketball at the Western Region All-Star Game on Saturday, March 29 where she earned MVP of the game. Gabby demonstrated positivity and intensity at all the right times and looked to take control as a floor leader throughout the game. Her commitment at both ends of the court was evident as she led her team to a victory with 17 points and incredible defense.

Maci MacInnis '31
has quickly emerged as a standout talent in the junior rugby program. As one of the youngest players on the team, she has already impressed coaches and teammates alike with her strength, speed, and eagerness to learn the game. Her natural athleticism and determined attitude suggest a bright future ahead, and there's no doubt she’ll play a key role in the team’s success in the years to come.
