Alas, after more than forty, perhaps even fifty years (?), the Chapel organ has died. Valiant efforts at making repairs have not worked. We are in the process of looking for a replacement organ either for the short term of perhaps ten years or for the long term. The organ is a crucial feature of Chapel. We have been blessed with a very talented young organist in Michael Gnemmi whose preludes and postludes as well as hymn-playing contribute greatly to the educational and aesthetic experience of students. An electric keyboard simply doesn’t cut it. He is helping in the task of looking for a satisfactory organ. The School, I anticipate, will be looking into establishing an organ fund. This is just to let you know that the organ which so many generations of students may remember as organists and choristers has unfortunately died.
