Debate Club's First Model United Nations Event of the Year

At the beginning of November, four young debaters Julien Gingras '27, Bruno Lastra Rubio '27, Tammy Oyebanji '26, and Michael Denysenko '25 travelled to Rothesay Netherwood School to participate in the annual Gordon Fairweather Model United Nations (MUN) event competing across three committees.

As the club's first MUN event of the year, tensions were high. Tammy was on the ECOSOC committee, Bruno on an environmental committee, and Michael and Julien on the committee tackling a historical crisis surrounding the partition of India. Throughout the day, the four debated complex issues, including refugee safety, oil taxes, artificial intelligence, and airstrikes on civilians. Despite the heavy workload, their efforts paid off: Bruno, Julien, and Tammy all received best delegate/diplomat honours in their respective committees.
