Debate Team Shines in Bermuda at International Competition
Three members of our debate team had the remarkable opportunity to travel to Bermuda for the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition, co-hosted by Bermuda High School and Saltus Grammar School. Students Molly Dickinson '26, Ray-Ray Gingras '26, and Vinnie Armstrong '25 competed in a variety of public speaking and debate categories over a four-day period, proudly representing King’s-Edgehill School and Nova Scotia. Each student ranked highly, with Vinnie and Ray-Ray excelling as a team in cross-examination debating, securing seventh place, and Molly also placing seventh in after-dinner speaking. This impressive performance positioned KES 17th in the international rankings!
Beyond the competition, the students had the chance to explore Bermuda’s scenic beauty, including swimming in limestone caves and sampling the local cuisine. A visit to a museum led them to a dolphin research center, where they watched dolphins identify objects and perform tricks—a clear highlight of their trip. They also discovered a strong connection between Bermuda and Nova Scotia, meeting Bermudians who own homes in Nova Scotia, which made them feel especially welcome.
As far as debate trips go, this was one to remember. Practicing speeches on the beach and competing in such a stunning part of the world was a truly unique experience. Congratulations to Ray-Ray, Vinnie, and Molly on this outstanding achievement!
