KES Debaters Excel at Nova Scotia Impromptu Debates

This past weekend, four of our talented debaters— Ray-Ray Gingras '26, Julien Gingras '27, Alethea Cheng '29, and Ruari Ryan '29—represented King's-Edgehill School at the Nova Scotia Impromptu Debates hosted by Halifax Grammar School. This tournament kicked off the 2024-25 debate season, and these students eagerly dove into five rounds of Canadian Parliamentary Debate, tackling challenging motions on topics such as whether individuals should consume content from artists or actors who have committed immoral acts, as well as debates on gun violence, environmental credit scores, and student protests.

The Nova Scotia Debate Association fosters a close-knit community, and it was wonderful to see students from various schools across the province reconnecting and competing at such a high level.

At the end of a long and rewarding day, our debaters were thrilled to achieve outstanding results. Ray-Ray and Julien Gingras secured an impressive fifth place overall, qualifying them for both BP and CP Senior Nationals. Additionally, Ruari and Alethea achieved strong speaker scores, with Alethea placing fifth individually and the team securing fifth place in team standings as well.

Congratulations to all our debaters on this fantastic start to the season! Stay tuned for a recap of our upcoming Sodales Tournament next weekend at Dalhousie University.
