Head of Female Boarding (Internal 10-Month Term Position- Maternity Leave Replacement)

The Head of Female Boarding is responsible for overseeing KES female residence operations and fostering a vibrant and supportive environment for our boarding community through the delivery of exceptional pastoral care.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Establish, communicate, and maintain a routine for the boarding houses including rules, daily schedule, and routines.
  • Ensure consistency between flats and houses, particularly in relation to boarding rules and welfare issues.
  • Ensure a visible and active presence in the boarding community in order to develop a relationship with all boarders and families including special events and move in days.
  • Mentor Houseparents and advise through difficult situations.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head, School Life and other applicable staff members to manage significant pastoral issues.
  • Ensure that medical matters are dealt with appropriately by liaising with the Health Services team and the students’ parents and guardians as appropriate.
  • Interact with REACH to ensure that all appropriate registration/attendance/absence records are created and kept for all boarders including signing in and out and clear whereabouts of boarders during weekends and holidays.
  • Oversee leave requests and pastoral reports from female boarding students.
  • Be aware of student travels situations before and after breaks and make sure Houseparents are communicating with Heads of Boarding and the Travel Coordinator.
  • Run bi-weekly Houseparent meetings to discuss residence and school-wide events.
  • Create and publish the residence duty roster.
  • Review daily duty reports from Teachers on Duty and Houseparents.
  • Work in conjunction with the Admissions team, Residence Life team, and Assistant Head, School Life to create and manage student dormitory assignments.
  • Schedule and run mandatory dorm orientation meeting(s) for all boarders.
  • Assist with hiring and training of the Houseparent team.
  • Help contribute to the maintenance and advancement of all documents related to boarding and residence life.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working in a residential boarding environment is a must.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful experience working with young people in an educational, residential, or social context preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong, positive relationships.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and energetically.
  • Demonstrated success as a high performing leader or manager.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with staff, students, parents, and the broader KES Community.
  • Must have excellent administrative skills, including the ability to organize, problem solve, and plan.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Must attend a wide range of School activities regularly.
  • Must have a flexible attitude towards duties and working patterns in order to fulfil the requirements of the role.
  • Experience using REACH considered a strong asset.
 
POSITION DETAILS
  • Position Type: Fixed term 10-month contract (maternity leave replacement)
  • Salary: $15,000 Stipend
  • Start date: August 2025
