After looking at the calendar it's hard to believe it has been four weeks since our last game! Between our school break, public school exams, and storm cancellations it seems like an eternity since we've been on the floor together.
The focus of this game was to enjoy ourselves and be thankful for the opportunity to play basketball together. This message was underscored by the fact that we just found out that one of our top player's season is over after knee surgery. The girls on the floor took nothing for granted and seemed to give it their all for each other and for their fallen teammate (who by the way showed up in crutches just to support her team only hours after her surgery!!!)
The game was truly one of our best of the season. It was so great not because of the score, but rather because of the way the girls played. From top to bottom our girls played hard with smiles on their faces. They were there to support each other all game and seemed to be in sync all night. It was the type of game that makes a coach proud.
While all the girls played solid games, three girls in particular stood out. Grade 10 soccer star Hannah Smith continued her ever-improving play and dished out 5 assists while playing solid defense. Astra Joyce was another player who seems to be coming into her own on the court. She played very well defensively and is showing more and more confidence around the net too. Finally, it was grade 11 player Anna Killacky who was absolutely dominant all game long. Whether it was her defense or her newly established inside game she was a force all game long and finished with a season high 17 points.
The girls play one final league game this week before they head into their home tournment and playoff season.
