Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week are chosen based on their exceptional athletic performance and sportsmanship. At KES, we prioritize positive sporting behavior, which is central to our athletic philosophy and aligns with our core school values of kindness, integrity, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also embody the seven True Sport principles: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

Ann MacQuarrie '25
, is a true competitor. She is dedicated to improving herself, maintains a positive attitude, and plays a key role in helping her teammates develop. Ann achieved success again this year, winning the regionals at the Zone Marksmanship CCOMCS air rifle competition at Camp Aldershot. She placed first overall out of 90 competitors, claiming victory in both 2024 and 2025. Her outstanding performance provides the marksmanship team with a strong chance of placing high in the standings.

Carter Cooling '25
, has been a consistent contributor on the scoresheet for the Highlanders boys hockey team, both in recent weeks and throughout the season. He has excelled in both forward and defence roles, demonstrating versatility and skill. As team captain, Carter leads by example, guiding his teammates through difficult times, including the passing of former teammate JD Trainor. He shows respect for his teammates, officials, and coaches.

Connor Mezenberg '28
, is the leader of the junior boys basketball team. Playing with skill and determination, he directs the team from the point guard position. As the top scorer and playmaker, Connor consistently demonstrates a great attitude on and off the court.

Sophie Zettler '28,
was named goalie of the tournament at the Female World Sport School Challenge (FWSSC) in Winnipeg, where she faced some of the top U18 competition in the country. As an underage player, she impressed everyone with her performance, earning the greatest individual achievement I’ve seen since I began coaching this program. Since then, Sophie has won four consecutive games, including Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Eastern Stars, the top-ranked U18 team in Atlantic Canada, which has lost only four regular-season games. As a Grade 9 student, Sophie had limited opportunities early in the season but has since taken full command of her role, maintaining unwavering focus and team spirit, even when she was not playing as much early in the year.
