The Self Portraits of the Grade 11 IB Visual Arts Class
The Grade 11 International Baccalaureate (IB) visual art students had a fantastic and creative journey with their self-portrait project! Combining traditional materials like pencil, soft chalk pastels, and marker gave them a chance to explore different techniques and expressions, with the flexibility of using either a childhood or recent photograph allowed for personal storytelling through their artwork.
The integration of cultural research as part of the assignment, not only to create meaningful self-portraits but also to connect the project with their next step into oil painting. This kind of transition is exciting and can provide a foundation for students to experiment with different media while reflecting on their own identities and backgrounds.
The students put a lot of effort into this assignment, and they should indeed be proud of the results. It’s always inspiring to see how young artists can express themselves through their work, and I'm sure this self-portrait exercise will be a significant part of their artistic development moving forward.
