Lunch and a Show: Grade 10 Band Performance

Last Monday, the Grade 10 music class delivered an exceptional performance during junior and senior lunch in the dining hall. Their efforts were met with warm applause from their peers and teachers, highlighting the supportive and vibrant community spirit of our school.

One of the core goals of a music ensemble is to build a sense of unity and collaboration among students who may not typically work together. This Grade 10 class has not only achieved that but has also developed a sense of integrity and joy in their collective efforts.

Their success is a testament to their hard work, learning new instruments, mastering a diverse repertoire, and cultivating an ensemble where every member plays a vital role. The process of performing together has provided them with both a sense of accomplishment and the unique thrill of creating music as a team.
In the first term, our focus is often on the fundamentals of music: notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, and instrumentation – essential building blocks of the Nova Scotia music curriculum. For many students, this is their first time playing an instrument or participating in an ensemble. Despite these challenges, this group quickly bonded, showing adaptability and natural talent. They embraced the process, from experimenting with different instruments to making adjustments that served the group’s needs.

For a class that began playing together just a few months ago, their progress has been remarkable. I am incredibly proud of their commitment and growth, and I look forward to seeing their continued development as musicians and collaborators.

In case you missed it, you can watch some of their performance here
