On November 15 and 16, a dozen teams from Yarmouth to Sydney converged in the Dalplex for two days of heated competition. Eight Highlanders made the trip, and all came away with best times.
Leading the way wereEmery Endres '28 and Harvey Hadley '27 as they competed in five and four events, respectively and both earned 100% best times. Emery had her best showing in the grueling 800m freestyle. Even though this was her first time swimming 800m in competition, she earned a fifth place finish out of 40 competitors. Of those ahead of her, three were 16 or 17 years old. Harveyalso had a great 800m as he bested 29 other swimmers to capture gold by almost 20 seconds. He also collected bronze in his 200m backstroke and just off the podium in fourth for his 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle. Lillian Blois '27 finished inside the top 10 and had a big best time in her 50m breaststroke. Junior Laura Napier-Whale '30 will be looking to rewrite the records that Lillian is setting in the years to come. As with Lillian, Laura swam her best 50m breaststroke to date. Michael Denysenko '25 had three top 10 finishes. In his 800m freestyle he placed sixth overall, and along with Hyatt Endres '28, Julien Gingras '27, and Rowan Francis '27 these Highlanders swam to eighth place in their 200m freestyle relay. Later in the day the four reunited for the 400m medley relay with Franics swimming backstroke, Endres in breaststroke, Denysenko for butterfly and Gingras on freestyle for a second eighth place finish. Rowan and Hyatt are probably in line for an ironman award as both raced six events in the same day and Rowan earned a best time in his 50m backstroke.
Our Highlanders are next in action at the NovaTech meet at Acadia University on December 1, and then our fastest will represent us at the annual Candy Cane meet in Truro. This is our biggest and most important meet for the fall season and all our swimmers are preparing daily to do their best.
