Students Experience the Sights and Sounds of New York City
In early November, 24 excited students accompanied by four staff members, embarked on a memorable trip to New York City, a cultural and artistic hub of North America. Our group had the opportunity to be immersed in the bustling cityscape, taking in iconic landmarks, galleries, and theatres.
A highlight of the trip was the view from the “Top of the Rock” Rockefeller Center rooftop viewing deck, where we could see the cityscape at night. We also saw not one, but two Broadway productions. Students were captivated by the incredible talent, elaborate sets, and engaging storylines of Water for Elephants, a new musical that includes circus performers, and even more so by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that had us on the edge of our seats with effects that seemed like magic.
Art enthusiasts in the group were thrilled to visit both the Metropolitan Museum (the Met) of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The students roamed through the Met's expansive galleries, marveling at ancient artifacts, classic European paintings, and intricate sculptures. At MoMA, they explored more modern and contemporary works including Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
Our stay near Times Square allowed us to fully experience the pulse of the city and indulge in a variety of New York’s culinary offerings, including famous Krispy Kreme donuts, deep dish pizza slices, and amazing tacos.
Overall, students and chaperones had a wonderful and rewarding experience in the Big Apple! Special thanks to chaperones Sven and Kelly Dietrich, and to Joanne Greenslade in Marshall House for assisting us in our days leading up to this trip.
