Sobeys Cup Champions: Highlanders Girls Hockey

The Highlanders girls hockey team had a successful weekend travelling to the Sobeys Cup in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The girls went undefeated throughout the weekend, bringing back a banner to campus.

They started the tournament with a 6-5 win playing the Greenfoot Capitals on Friday afternoon. Leslie Cuddihy '25 recorded four assists, and Renee Olsen '25 got a hattrick in the game. Saturday morning, the girls had a 6-0 win against the Cape Breton Lynx, with goaltender Sophie Zettler '28 recording her first shutout of the season. Saturday night the girls had a closer game, coming out on top with a 2-1 win against the Lindsay Surge. Sunday morning, in the semifinals the girls won 3-0 against the Nepean Wildcats, with goaltender Sarah Hillier '26 recording her first shutout. After a quick break, the girls advanced to the finals where they faced the hometown host, the Northern Subway Selects. After a quick goal by the Selects, the girls battled back, controlling the play and scoring two third period goals by Ali MacLean '27 and Grace Allison '25 to take home the banner with a 2-1 win.

It was a wonderful weekend for all, and the girls are on track to have a very successful season.
