Highlanders Take on Female World Sport School Challenge

The Highlanders girls hockey team travelled to Winnipeg for the Female World Sport School Challenge, hosted by St. Mary's Academy. The girls finished the tournament with a record of three wins and one loss. After dropping their first game, the Highlanders pulled off three consecutive wins playing the host St. Mary's Academy, Sherwood Park from Alberta, and Yellowhead from Manitoba.

The Highlanders topped the Yellowhead Chiefs 4–3 in the fifth-place game.

Highlanders goaltender Sophie Zettler '28, entered the tournament after the second period of game two and did not leave the net for the rest of the tournament. Sophie made 20 saves, including overtime, and allowing no goals in Friday's shootout win versus St. Mary's. Then Sophie stopped 37 of 39 shots playing Sherwood Park on way to a 4–2 win. Finally, Sophie shut door multiple occasions on route to securing a fifth-place finish for the Highlanders.

Sophie was awarded the First Team All-Star and Goalie of the Tournament award. This is an amazing accomplishment for any player, let alone someone who is still underaged at the U18 level.

Notable contributors:

Ella Flinn '26 scored her first of the season in Thursday's loss to Westman. She followed that up with three more on the weekend to finish with a team-high four goals in four games.

Brooklyn Jefford '26 was exceptional the entire weekend with her ability to work in all situations and log some of the most ice time against other teams' best players. She was also able to contribute offensively with an assist and seven shots on goal.
