Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week are chosen based on their exceptional athletic performance and sportsmanship. At KES, we prioritize positive sporting behavior, which is central to our athletic philosophy and aligns with our core school values of kindness, integrity, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also embody the seven True Sport principles: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

Senior Athletes of the Week:

Kenta Matsuda '27 earned a gold medal at the Park View tournament and a silver at the KES Invitational, showcasing his exceptional skill and determination. With a quiet determination unmatched by others, Kenta lets his actions speak louder than words. His unwavering work ethic and serious attitude inspire his fellow wrestlers, both on and off the mat. From his disciplined diet and rigorous workout routine to his commitment to refining his technical skills, Kenta’s dedication to the sport is evident in every aspect of his life. A true student of wrestling, he’s constantly analyzing and thinking about how to improve, making impressive strides along the way.

Ali MacLean '27 has been a dominant force for the Highlanders girls hockey team this season, taking charge and excelling in key moments on and off the ice. Her leadership has grown significantly, leading by example and always supporting her teammates even when frustrated by a shift. Ali consistently outworks others, focusing on improving her body language and positivity, and has learned to handle adversity without letting it affect her drive. As a Grade 10 player, she leads our team in goals and ranks second in scoring, but it's her resilience and ability to inspire those around her that truly makes her invaluable. Her journey this season has shown remarkable growth, and her leadership is an example that even older players can learn from.

Junior Athletes of the Week:

Eli Strum '28 played a pivotal role as forward on the developmental hockey team, leading us to two victories at the Summit Hockey Tournament with an impressive nine goals in three games. A skilled and disciplined leader both on and off the ice, Eli consistently maintains a clean, controlled style of play. His positive attitude and vocal encouragement motivate his teammates, while his hard work shines in both offensive and defensive zones. Eli’s rapid growth and increasing speed on the ice demonstrate his potential to excel at a high level in the future.

Quinn Watt '28, a talented goalie on the developmental hockey team, was exceptional at the Summit Hockey Tournament, showcasing not only her skills but also a fantastic attitude and positive leadership. Her strong work ethic serves as an inspiring example for her teammates, and she consistently leads by doing the right thing, both on and off the ice. Throughout the season, Quinn has demonstrated steady improvement, continuing to elevate her game and solidifying herself as a key player on the team.
