The Highlanders boys hockey team took their first trip down to the states for the MPHL showcase weekend. The showcase was held in Burlington, VT hosted by Rice Memorial. It was a great showcase for our players as the event was attended by multiple junior and NCAA scouts.
The team finished with a 1-3 record, running into some tough competition. The boys opened the weekend with a gritty 4-2 win over St. Francis High School. William Bridgeo '25 was fantastic in net while Jack Warren '26 potted two goals to help the team secure their first MPHL win of the season.
Saturday the team played two games facing off against Academie Ste-Cecile in the morning and a very strong and much older Gilmour Academy in the afternoon. These two games finished with a 7-1 loss and a 10-2 loss respectively. The boys competed hard and ran into some strong goaltending and tough competition. Jack Warren, Alex Doyle '26, and Chris Turgeon'26 scored the goals for the Highlanders while Keaton Pardy '26 and William Bridgeo saw action in the net.
The final day of the showcase saw a match-up against Shady Side Academy. The Highlanders took an early lead a minute into the game with a goal from captain Carter Cooling '25 but unfortunately fell 6-2 in the final period. Jagger Hann '27 scored his first goal as a Highlander and Nolan Herritt '25 played in goal.
This trip was a great learning experience and it also gave the team a chance to bond. When we weren’t playing hockey, we explored the beautiful town of Burlington and got a glimpse of the University of Vermont’s campus.
We have two and a half full weeks left of practice before we get back into CSSHL game action!
