Athletes of the Week are chosen based on their exceptional athletic performance and sportsmanship. At KES, we prioritize positive sporting behavior, which is central to our athletic philosophy and aligns with our core school values of kindness, integrity, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also embody the seven True Sport principles: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.
Junior Athletes of the Week
On the weekend of November 15, a dozen teams from Yarmouth to Sydney converged at the Dalplex for two days of heated competition. Leading the way was Emery Endres '28 as she competed in five events and earned 100% best times. Emery had her best showing in the grueling 800m freestyle. Even though this was her first time swimming 800m in competition, she earned a fifth-place finish of 40 competitors. That impressive result comes from her daily dedication in the pool for seven practices a week.
Ewan Shaw '30 applied his wrestling skills and tremendous energy to the mats this past weekend at the first wrestling Nova Scotia tournament of the school year in Eastern Passage. He competed in a tough, four-man bracket in the U15 division, even though he is only 11 years old, and finished in first place. Ewan still has a lot to learn, but as he continues to apply himself, he will become an even more valuable member of our team.
Senior Athletes of the Week
Sara Senior-Smith '26 demonstrated exceptional performance on the volleyball court, showcasing consistent reliability and dependability. Her agility and skill, highlighted by remarkable moments such as successfully executing splits to keep the ball in play (not once, but on four separate occasions), made her an invaluable asset during critical games. Sara’s ability to set up teammates and strategically place balls "set" a high standard of excellence. As seen in our pre-regional and final league games, she was an integral part to our team's overall success and growth throughout the season.
The wrestler of the day for the Windsor Mat Kings at our inaugural tournament in Eastern Passage this past weekend was Hugo Montgomery '27. He had the most matches, the most technical performances, and the toughest opponents. After losing his opener to possibly the most experienced wrestler at the tournament (who went on to win the division), Hugo won his remaining three contests with two pins and point superiority. He overcame his skilled opponents with technique, athleticism, toughness, and intelligence. This is especially impressive since this young man has only one full wrestling season under his belt, and he already is training with the Canada Games team and competing against provincial level wrestlers from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI. He represented KES the way he always does – in a dignified and respectful manner towards his opponents, the officials, and the sport.
