Junior Girls Soccer Advances to Regionals

The junior girls soccer team has secured their berth to regionals for the fourth year in a row!

Juggling a sport commitment along with all the other demands that the students of King's-Edgehill have is hard work, but every member of the junior girls soccer team does it with grace and tenacity. This season has challenged the girls in a new and unexpected way. Customarily each division has competition in tier one and two, with each team having three teams of opposition. Unfortunately, with the number of young girls participating in soccer across the region dwindling, we have only seen one opponent to date. Many junior programs are made up of Grades 6-8, with Grade 9 students being pushed to high school. With players across the Junior School, Grades 6-9, we are in a unique position that does not allow us to play certain teams because of grade match up. Additionally, with schools not having enough girls to field a team, the season has been very limited. Having played numerous games against Uniacke District School (UDS), it was a battle between very familiar faces during the district championship game on Thursday, October 24.  With a 2-1 victory over UDS in extra time, there were moments of elation and also extreme anxiety. With goals from Mielle Lawrence '28 and Hilary Shaw '29, and a stellar performance in net by Willoughby Larder '29 we were able to secure a spot at the regional championships!

As a coach you always want to win, but you also want the members of your team to feel confidence in their ability and game play, as well as a sense of comradery with their teammates. As a member of the junior girls coaching staff for the last four years, I can easily say that the girls who show up to practice every day are a joy. Their commitment to the game but also to uplifting each other is amazing. They are positive, supportive, patient, and kind with one another across every avenue. Not only our captains (Elynn Klein '28 and Lily Lloyd '28), but all members of the team have shown great leadership. In the moments before the game, or between halves, or in the practice post game, everyone has a voice to express what they think we did well and what we need to improve on. The feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with the focus being what we can do better as a team, not as an individual.

Regionals will be the week of November 4, with location to be determined.
