Regional Ski Races a Success for KES

There were two western region ski races at Martock this season, they took place on February 23 and February 28. KES had a cohort of 22 racers! Each student-athlete competes as an individual based on their combined times (sum of two-timed runs). Schools may also enter teams of 3-5 athletes in age and gender categories. The fastest three combined times from the team are added together to make the team time.

We managed to run a complete race on February 23, but with the rain over the next weekend, the racecourse did not hold up as well as needed, so it was cut short to a one-run race due to safety.

Although we are not able to participate in the provincial competition due to it being postponed to the second week of our March break, we do understand the rain warning, freezing rain warning, and hill closures made this necessary. We have much to celebrate - we undoubtedly had a wonderful season of training and races at Martock! Well done team – we are very proud of all of you!

A big thank you to Mr. Phil Hadley for running the timing gear for the second race, to Mr. Kyle Endres for guest coaching a few days this winter, and to Captains Caitlin and Hermine for their leadership throughout the season.

Coaches Mary Ann Dufour and Lana Steffan
