Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness, learning, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport” which states: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

For the week of February 4, 2024

Eli Strum ‘28 had a great two-day tournament at Summit Academy last week. Energetic and positive-minded, he scored many goals including a very important one in the semi-final seven-round shootout. Eli’s dedication to hockey and the School is very evident and his sportsmanlike but inspired play continues to be an inspiration to his teammates. Well done, Eli!

Evie Lloyd ‘29 may have a quiet demeanour, but you always know when she is on the court. She is our strongest rebounder, and we can always count on her to get the ball where it needs to be. A solid team player, she is always looking for opportunities to help her teammates out. Keep up the great work Evie!

For the week of February 11, 2024

Emerson Klein ‘30 is an experienced rookie on the junior girls basketball team, she has shown growth in her maturity on and off the court in her first year here at KES. She’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. Keep up the great work Emmie!

Kenta Matsuda ‘27 made excellent use of the skills he has acquired through extremely hard work this season when he earned silver at the Sackville High School invitational and Wrestling Nova Scotia wrestling tournaments this past weekend. He is a very modest and respectful competitor who lives our School mission and true sport principles. He had very tough competition on both days of the tournament. He is a particularly physical wrestler, and he also took a very studious approach because he was watching videos of his matches and analyzing his performance when he wasn't competing. We are looking forward to having Kenta represent our junior boys team at the regional qualifiers and provincials at the end of the season. Great work, Kenta!

Liz Hardy ‘24 remains the only undefeated wrestler who has competed in all tournaments. She demolished her opposition on both days of the tournament to earn two more gold medals. Her skills have grown a lot in the last couple of weeks. She is a cerebral wrestler who plans ahead by talking about and practicing what she is going to do and then follows through on the mat. We can't wait to see her compete in the regional finals towards the end of the season. Great work, Liz!

For the week of February 18, 2024

Noah Lin ‘27 had a fantastic basketball game playing Avon View High School recently. He hit several key shots and offensive drives for the victory. Congratulations Noah!

Kaiah States ‘27 played well in the D1 senior girls regional basketball final last week against Horton. Despite the loss, Kaiah provided excellent energy and defensive output. Her confidence has increased dramatically throughout the season, and she can now be counted on to provide her team valuable minutes even in the most important of situations. Kaiah and her teammates now have their sights set on the provincial play-in game which we will host here on campus.

For the week of February 25, 2024

Emery Endres ‘28 is a multi-sport athlete of the highest calibre. She is a swimmer and a varsity skier. At our home swim meet on Thursday, February 22, Emery swam three events and collected three medals. She finished second in her 50m backstroke, third in 50m butterfly, and third in 50m freestyle. The following day she was on the slopes of Martock representing KES alpine excellence with a gold medal in the junior girls division and even placed third overall among all junior, intermediate, and senior girls.

Alex Slaunwhite ‘27 won the MVP of the Summit Cup basketball tournament. He led the team to victory with an upset win over Bedford Academy in the final. His outside shooting and ball-handling ability was the glue that the team needed at key moments throughout the game.

Caitlin Behan ‘25, our team captain led the way for the senior girls team in the first regional varsity ski race of the season. She placed first in the individual senior girl category, was the fastest KES racer of the day, and was the second fastest racer out of all 41 boys and girls. Caitlin’s leadership has been outstanding this season!

Arthur Nusser ‘25 has been one of the most enthusiastic athletes at training sessions this season. His enthusiasm paid off at the first regional race where he clocked the fastest male time for KES. Coaches are excited to see this insight of friendly competition within our own squad, which will only make everyone better and faster. Keep up the great work Arthur!
